Vegetarian Eats: The Wholesome Table 2

I am currently in a period of my life where change is the norm and the future seems to be as unclear as the murky depths of the Pasig river. FUNemployment, as my fellow batch mates call it, is supposed to be a time of enjoyment and relaxation. Yet as much as we try to escape through extended breaks and vacations, we are still faced with this reality at the end of the day: our lives are about to drastically change as we take our first steps into adulthood. This ambiguity is always a little bit unnerving. Yet, I cope with all this change by keeping other things in my life constant. And that includes going to one of my favourite restaurants again and again and again...

Welcome to another Vegetarian Eats post. This is the second time I am covering The Wholesome Table. But again, there is nothing wrong with a little redundancy, especially if it keeps you sane in the midst of uncertainty. Besides, the food is delicious. Even my meat-eating friends can vouch for that.

I can go on and on about how much I love the ambience of their BGC branch. I don't know how to peg the experience exactly but The Wholesome Table makes me feel like I have been transported to a countryside barn, where the food is delicious, farm-fresh and of course, organic. You can find their menu here.

As my main course, I ordered from their brunch menu (which is available until 6PM, can you believe it?). I have been enjoying eating scrambled eggs recently, so I had the Green Eggs and Tomato Omelet. According to the menu, this omelet is cooked with Kale, Spinach, Leeks, Wild Mushrooms, Cherry Tomatoes, and Emmental cheese. The vegetables provide a really nice texture to every bite of the omelet, while the Emmental keeps the dish flavourful and salty. But that's not all folks! It also comes with a side salad and sourdough toast. In some way, I feel like I'm getting way more than what I paid for.

For dessert, I had one Valrhona Double Chocolate Cookie. I make it a point to remind myself to NEVER UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES eat a cookie when I'm stressed. The tiniest nibble and I become ravenous, craving for more until I've inhaled all the cookies I can get my hands on. If I keep it up, I have a very strong feeling I'll grow blue fur and move to Sesame Street.

Although I feel like I'm totally biased (because a cookie-lover appreciates cookies of all shapes and sizes), their Valrhona Double Chocolate Cookies are so decadent and delicious that I feel like one is already enough. I paired this with some brewed coffee, specifically their Mt. Apo Coffee. It is a new addition to their menu but I hope it sticks around. Chemex-made pour-over coffee never tasted so good.

Looking back on my meal at The Wholesome Table, I have realized that I didn't order my usual salad and soup combo. I could tell my companions at the table were surprised by my choices. However, I ended up enjoying the new flavours and scents that came with every morsel I consumed. Perhaps change isn't so scary after all.
